Wisconsin Theater Arts is looking for SUMMER CAMP COLLEGE INTERNS & JUNIOR INTERNS

for our upcoming three week musical theater summer camp in July 2026.

Location: Mukwonago, WI


What are we looking for in our COLLEGE INTERNS?


Qualifications

  • Interns must be high school graduates (ages 18+).
  • Currently studying theater OR musical theater in a collegiate program.
  • Previous theatrical performance experience.
  • Vocal and dance experience preferred.
  • All interns must complete an intern application and participate in an interview. 
  • All applicants will be notified prior to the start of camp (at least 2 weeks prior if not earlier) as to whether or not they're offered an intern position.

    Qualities

    • Experience in working with children and adolescents
    • Knowledge of theater and musical theater (onstage and backstage) is required
    • Vocal training/knowledge/experience is required
    • Dance training/knowledge/experience is helpful
    • Maturity and good judgement
    • Patience, nurturing, and positive attitude
    • Able to keep campers attentive and motivated
    • Self-starting, creative, and energetic
    • Detail-oriented, focused work ethic, and ability to take initiative
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Punctual, organized, and can stick to a deadline

    Professionalism

    • Act in a professional and ethical manner (interaction w/campers must be as an intern and not as another camper)
    • Dress in an appropriate manner 
    • Follow through on commitments
    • Does not conduct personal business during work hours (this includes cell phone use)
    • Arrive early and ready to work
    • Give your best effort

    Attendance Expectations

    Attendance is of utmost importance for the duration of summer theater camp therefore all interns must be available for each day of camp and performance day. Conflicts with camp dates must be discussed during the interview. If there are too many conflicts that cannot be accommodated/work with the camp schedule we will not be able to consider you for the position.

    If hired, no new conflicts can be made for the duration of camp. Illness and/or emergencies do arise and we will work around those IF something comes up.

    • Summer Camp runs for three weeks between July 6-24, Monday through Friday from 10am – 3pm (camp time MAY change slightly depending on location use schedule)
    • Performances take place the weekend of July 24-26, 2026 (Exact performance date & times are still being determined based on location scheduling.)
    • Strike: TBA – ALL interns are expected to stay and help.

    Arrival & Dismissal

    All INTERNS will:

    • Arrive  at 9:30am and stay until all campers have been checked out and all clean-up has been completed. This should be no later than 3:30pm.
    • Supervision and help during camper arrival and dismissal is required for every intern.
    • Performance Days - Interns will have an earlier call time than campers and will stay until all cleanup, etc… is finished after the performance is complete.

    Daily Responsibilities

    All INTERNS will:

    • Assist directors with rehearsals: blocking, music, and choreography when needed. Interns will always participate in rehearsals and help campers maintain their focus during rehearsals.
    • Assist with set building/construction, painting, prop making, etc… (this would occur after camp is finished for the day and/or on weekends - this is all depends on when we can use the space and what type of set needs there are for the production)
    • Work with campers to memorize lines, song lyrics, practice music, and rehearse choreography during down times or other times when some campers aren’t needed on stage. Interns may be asked to work along with a specific director to assist with music and/or choreography
    • Accompany/watch over campers during break times, lunch, restroom breaks, etc…
    • Lead campers through a basic morning physical warm-up.
    • Be prepared to participate and/or lead theater games to warm up campers at the beginning of each day, use during break times, or any other time when appropriate.

    Additional Responsibilities

    Participation in Production:

    • Willingness to jump in and be a part of the ensemble and/or Featured Roles. If needed, jump into a supporting  or lead role. Supporting and/or lead roles are not guaranteed for college interns as they are there to be a part of the directorial team and not as campers. College Interns may be asked to understudy a role or two just in case we end up with a sick camper who cannot perform.

    Costumes:

    • Assist with camper measurements when needed.
    • Assist with costume fittings prior to show week.
    • Assist with setting up, breaking down, cleaning, transporting costume , etc.. during rehearsals, shows and post show.
    • Assist with costume changes during shows if needed.
    Regarding Dress Rehearsals & Performances:
    • Be punctual and ready to help receive campers.
    • Assist directors with show prep that is needed.
    • Assist campers with costume, makeup, and hair prep.
    • Become additional backstage crew (if needed) for the production and assist with backstage duties assigned to you by directors and/or stage manager

    Intern Stipend

    • College Interns will be paid $50/week to help offset the cost of gas and other expenses. Interns will also receive a camp t-shirt.
    • Stipend payment will be sent upon the completion of summer camp.

    What are we looking for in our JUNIOR INTERNS?

    A JUNIOR INTERN should:

    • Be 16-18 years old
    • Be a junior or senior in high school (or equivalent if homeschooled)
    • Be able to secure a ride to and from the summer camp location OR be able to drive themselves
    • Complete the Junior Intern application

    Junior Intern Qualities:

    • Maturity, good judgment, and experience in working with children and adolescents
    • Has patience and a nurturing attitude
    • Able to keep campers attentive and motivated
    • Self-starting, creative, and energetic
    • Detail-oriented, focused work ethic, and positive attitude
    • Performance experience in musical theater. Dance experience is preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to take initiative and work alongside college interns
    • Punctual, organized, and can stick to a deadline.

    Junior Intern Expectations:

    Professionalism

    • Acts in a professional and ethical manner.
    • Demonstrates and upholds Judeo-Christian morals, including honesty, compassion, humility, and respect for others.

    • Sets a good example of appropriate behaviors for other campers.
    • Dress in an appropriate manner  (ask if you are not sure).
    • Does not conduct personal business during work hours (this includes cell phone use) .
    • Be punctual.
    • Gives 100% effort.
    • Has a positive attitude.

    We understand that illness and emergencies do arise. All we ask is that junior interns contact the directors asap. The director's cell number will be given to all junior interns prior to the start of summer camp.

    • Arrive 20 minutes prior to the START OF CAMP or earlier and stay until all campers have been checked out and all clean-up has been completed.
    • Junior Interns will help supervise campers IN THE THEATER SPACE as campers arrive each day and before camp officially begins each day.
    • Junior Interns will help with cleanup during lunch break as well as after camp dismissal.

    Daily Responsibilities

    All JUNIOR INTERNS will:

    • Assist with set building/construction, painting, prop making, etc… (This could be after regular camp hours and/or weekends - just depends on what the set & prop needs are for the production.)
    • WHEN NEEDED: Help campers run lines, practice songs, choreography, etc...
    • Accompany/watch over younger campers during break times, lunch, restroom breaks, etc…
    • Participate in all theater games when college interns have been asked to lead the group. College Interns may ask you to help them demonstrate theater games.
    • Set a good example for all other campers to emulate.

    Additional Responsibilities

    Participation in Production:

    • You will be cast in a featured, supporting, or lead role that best suits your singing, acting, and dancing abilities.  No specific role is guaranteed.
    • Be prepared to be off book as quickly as possible.
    • Give 100% each and every day of camp.
    • Be positive and supportive of the production, campers, and directorial team.

    Costumes:

    • Assist with camper costume fittings if needed.
    • Assist with setting up, breaking down, cleaning, transporting costumes, etc.. during rehearsals, shows and post show.
    • Assist with costume changes during shows if needed.

    Dress Rehearsals & Performances:

    • Arrive early and be ready to help receive campers. This may mean arriving early to get yourself situated with makeup & hair (& costume) so you are ready to help others in the cast if needed.
    • Assist directors, stage manager, and college interns with show prep that is needed.
    • Assist campers with costume, makeup, and hair prep where needed.
    • Become additional backstage crew for the production and assist with backstage duties assigned to you by directors and/or stage manager. This will all depend on the needs we have for extra stage crew.
    • Set a good example for backstage etiquette and follow the etiquette established by the directors.

    • Junior interns receive camp tuition at 50% off upon acceptance as a junior intern.
