Our Future
Explore our long-term vision to lease, outfit, and launch an intimate black box performance venue through our Building Our Black Box Campaign.
A Permanent Home for the Arts
Since our inception, Wisconsin Theater Arts has proudly delivered premium programming to families across our local community. However, because we rely on temporary spaces at local schools and churches, our venues can change frequently. Facility availability is highly unpredictable, and sometimes we’re still searching for a location just weeks before camps and classes begin, which means we often cannot finalize schedules more than a few months in advance.
To provide families with the stable, long-term predictability they deserve, we have officially launched our Building Our Black Box Campaign. Our immediate goal is to lease, design, and outfit a dedicated commercial storefront venue. Securing our own 24/7 calendar will allow us to expand our staff, run concurrent age-segmented classes, and establish a regular, year-round mainstage production season that our communities can rally around.
Our search for a dedicated storefront is moving fast because the need is immediate—securing our own space ensures we never have to delay class announcements or scramble for seasonal venues again.
What is a Black Box Theater?
A black box theater is a highly flexible, intimate performance space characterized by its simple, unadorned design. Typically painted completely black to create a beautifully neutral environment, this style of venue completely removes the traditional “proscenium arch” stage barrier, bringing our audience right into the story.
This deliberate design choice unlocks incredible artistic and operational benefits:
- Versatile Staging Arrangements: The seating and stage configurations can be completely rearranged for every single show, supporting diverse scenic design styles and historical periods.
- Intimate Audience Interaction: Bypassing massive auditoriums fosters a profoundly closer connection, empathy, and artistic energy between our performers and viewers.
- Hands-On Educational Classrooms: A permanent space gives our students an active, safe laboratory to learn every aspect of the craft—including acting, set construction, costuming, makeup, and advanced theatrical stage management.

Our Facility & Location Goals
Per our data-driven business plan, our strongest strategic path is to establish our facility within our historic community footprint—focusing our search along the high-priority regional corridor connecting Burlington, Waterford, and Mukwonago. Anchoring our permanent home along this active multi-county artery allows us to deepen our engagement with our core student base and families without competing directly with distant, urban providers.
To safely and respectfully accommodate all of our regional patrons, our future facility will feature single-level or highly moderate elevations, full ADA-compliant accessibility standards, and robust parking access matching standard municipality planning guidelines.
Our Three-Year Strategic Roadmap
To sustainably meet the rising regional demand for premium arts education, Wisconsin Theater Arts has engineered a clear, data-driven three-year business plan. By unlocking a permanent leased performance home, we are positioned to scale our operations, broaden our community impact, and secure long-term financial stability.
Program Expansion
Over the next three seasons, we aim to aggressively scale our annual educational offerings from 4–5 classes and camps to 14 fully realized seasonal tracks. By year three, we will launch a dedicated community theater branch presenting four complete mainstage productions annually.
Facility Target: Winter 2027
Securing a permanent storefront or commercial facility is our primary operational focus. By actively pursuing a smart retail lease-and-retrofit model over the next 18 months, we can equip, stage, and open an intimate black box theater environment for a lean capital footprint of $75,000 to $100,000.
Sustained Stability
To keep student tuition and ticket prices highly affordable for all area families, we are intensifying our development outreach. Our goal is to achieve total financial equilibrium by year three, sourcing over 30% of total revenue from community contributions, grants, and cultural aid.
