Internship Opportunities
Wisconsin Theater Arts offers summer internship positions for high school and college students who want meaningful, hands-on experience supporting our theatrical camps. Interns work closely with our directors, assist campers, and gain practical training in both performance and production.

College Interns
Who we’re looking for
High school graduates ages 18+ who are currently studying theater or musical theater in a collegiate program.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college theater or musical theater program
- Previous theatrical performance experience
- Vocal and dance experience preferred
- Must complete an application and participate in an interview
Qualities we value
- Experience working with children and adolescents
- Knowledge of theater and musical theater (onstage and backstage)
- Vocal training/experience required; dance helpful
- Maturity, good judgment, patience, and a positive attitude
- Ability to keep campers attentive and motivated
- Self-starting, creative, energetic, detail-oriented, and able to take initiative
- Strong interpersonal skills, punctuality, and organization
Professional expectations
- Act in a professional and ethical manner (interaction with campers must be as an intern, not as another camper)
- Dress appropriately
- Follow through on commitments
- No personal business (including cell phone use) during work hours
- Arrive early and ready to work
- Give your best effort
Attendance
Full availability for the camp period(s) you select is required. Conflicts must be discussed during the interview. Once hired, no new conflicts may be added. Illness or emergencies will be handled with communication.
Typical schedule notes
- 3-week camp: roughly early–mid July, Monday–Friday (approx. 10 am–3 pm), plus performance weekend and strike
- 1-week camp: dates announced each year; same daily structure applies
- Interns arrive before campers and stay until cleanup and dismissal are complete
- Performance days have earlier call times and later end times
Daily & production responsibilities
- Assist directors with blocking, music, and choreography
- Help campers memorize lines, practice songs, and rehearse choreography
- Participate in or lead warm-ups and theater games
- Supervise campers during breaks, lunch, and transitions
- Assist with set construction, painting, props, costumes, and fittings
- Support costume changes and backstage duties during performances
- May understudy or join the ensemble if needed
Compensation
$50 per week worked + camp t-shirt. Payment is made after successful completion of the internship period(s).
Junior Interns
Who we’re looking for
Students ages 16–18 who are juniors or seniors in high school (or equivalent if homeschooled). Must be able to secure reliable transportation.
Qualities we value
- Maturity, good judgment, and experience working with children and adolescents
- Patience and a nurturing attitude
- Ability to keep campers attentive and motivated
- Self-starting, creative, energetic, and detail-oriented
- Performance experience in musical theater (dance preferred but not required)
- Ability to take initiative and work alongside college interns
- Punctuality and organization
Professional expectations
- Act in a professional and ethical manner
- Set a good example for other campers
- Dress appropriately
- No personal business (including cell phone use) during work hours
- Be punctual and give full effort
- Maintain a positive attitude
Attendance
Full availability for the camp period(s) you select is required. Any conflicts must be discussed before camp begins. Illness or emergencies should be communicated promptly.
Typical schedule notes
- Same overall structure as College Interns (arrive early, stay through cleanup)
- Junior Interns help supervise the theater space as campers arrive and assist with cleanup
Daily & production responsibilities
- Assist with set, prop, and costume work
- Help campers run lines, practice music, and rehearse choreography when needed
- Supervise younger campers during breaks and transitions
- Participate in theater games and warm-ups
- Be cast in a featured, supporting, or lead role suited to your abilities
- Assist with costume fittings, changes, and backstage duties during performances
- Support overall show preparation and strike
Compensation
- 1-week camp: $50 stipend and no registration fee
- 3-week camp: 50% off camp registration
